On Thursday, October 3, 2024, Sellerie Gaston Mercier celebrated a milestone in its history by awarding medals of service to two of its most iconic artisans, Saïd El Merouani, a leather cutter, and Céline Boissonnade, a seamstress, for their 20 years of dedication to the workshop.
In opening the ceremony, Gaston Mercier, founder of the sellerie, took the opportunity to reflect on the roots of his company and the significance of its longevity:
“I decided to create the workshop in 1998. It's very important for our company to endure, especially in today’s context.”
His words echoed as a tribute not only to the company itself but also to the two artisans who have stood by it for two decades.
His son, Manuel Mercier, who has since taken over the reins of the business, also expressed his gratitude towards Saïd El Merouani and Céline Boissonnade:
“Saïd has allowed me to free up a lot of time to take on new responsibilities. Like him before me, I was a leather cutter.”
He also thanked and emphasized the essential role of Céline Boissonnade, an outstanding seamstress:
“Céline is incredibly reliable. Through her sewing work, she has satisfied more than 7,200 riders…!”
She also congratulated Céline and Saïd for their contributions:
“Congratulations for leaving your mark on the creation of all these saddles and for satisfying so many riders around the world. Bravo to all of you.”
After the medal presentation, the ceremony continued with a retrospective slideshow, featuring workshop photos and moments of camaraderie from the sellerie’s journey between 2004 and 2024. The images transported employees back through two decades of memories, sparking laughter and rekindling the emotions of the years spent together.
