Ethology training with Thierry Lhermitte at Domaine de Gaillac
Thierry L'hermitte: an ambassador with a passion for horses
For us, Thierry Lhermitte represents much more than a public figure. He has been a Gaston Mercier ambassador for many years, sharing our passion for outdoor riding, a respectful approach and love of the horse. He teaches his students the skills of gentle horsemanship.
Introducing our Saddles
After the first day of training, trainees and instructor met inside the estate. The estate is a traditional Caussenarde farm where the Arnal family has been breeding Lusitano horses for over 40 years. The equestrian center allows you to discover the picturesque corners of Larzac on horseback.
On this occasion, Alexia, our sales representative, presented our different models. All were pleasantly surprised by the comfort and lightness of our saddles.
"You really get the heels, buttocks and head in line," says Thierry L'Hermitte. "And with comfort," adds a listener.
The Doline II model, with its aesthetics and wrap-around cleats, won the heart of one trainee, who was able to try it out during the rest of the course with a view to purchase.
"With this saddle, you don't need to look for your balance suspension point, just lean forward a little and stand up 3 centimeters and you're there!" explains Alexia.
A cultural and convivial evening
The evening continued with a visit to the estate's museum of arts and traditions. Manuel Mercier, our saddlery manager, was in his element in front of the vintage equipment. Passionate about the history of saddlery, he shared his knowledge with the participants. Indeed, the traditional manufacturing tools on display, are still used in our workshop to make our saddles.
These include:
-the abat carre, used to round off the edges of the leather by hand.
-the pressing machine.
-the awl for removing stitched threads.
-the groove, used to dig a groove to embed the sewing thread in the leather, to prevent wear.
The evening ended with a convivial meal at the estate's restaurant, where local cuisine was served.
We would like to thank Mounira Haslé, development officer at CFPPA de la Cazotte and organizer of the event, Thierry Lhermitte and Domaine de Gaillac for their warm welcome.
